Become an Afterschool Mentor

Mentors play a critical role in giving children the support they need to succeed. Whatever you’re good at, kids can learn from you.

Am I Qualified?

The LEARN Afterschool program offers mentoring opportunities for students over the age of 16 and adults. Mentors must commit to attending the program at least 4 hours a week for 9-12 months. Mentors assist LEARN teachers as needed and help students with various skills including brief homework help, math, reading, computer skills, and hands on activities (games, arts & crafts, gardening, etc). Mentors should additionally have practical problem-solving skills, communicate openly and non-judgementally with LEARN students and staff and able to establish relationships based on equal responsibility and respect.

Hours: Monday-Friday 2:30-5:00 PM during the Academic Year (days depend on the school district’s schedule)

How to Apply

1) Contact the LEARN Mentoring Coordinator.

2) If you are a W&J College Student eligible for Federal Work Study: Print out your FWS form and have it signed by the Mentoring Coordinator and Volunteer Services Coordinator or Assistant Dean Jerry Stebbins at W&J.

3) Fill out the INTAKE PACKET. The forms are listed below.
